A validation letter (also called a VOD [validation of debt] letter), is one you send to collection agencies. This letter challenges the collection agency, under the FDCPA, to prove the item is yours. It locks them up and if they can not prove it is yours (just saying so does not count under the law), they can not report or collect on the item any longer. This letter must be sent via the CRRR method. This letter is used in combo with the dispute letter and is a powerful combo for correcting your credit report.
